Fishing and Hunting

The touristic region Western Rhodopes is known for high quality hunting trophies as well as for the magnificent scenery which gives delight to all senses! The Hunting companies in Devin offer group hunting trips for wild boar and the Devin’s game breeding station offers individual hunting as well as accommodation in its own base. Hunting trips are also organized by hunting company “Omana” in Dospat. The variety of relief forms, rich vegetation, abundance of spring and river water and the availability of difficult terrains are natural prerequisites for the great plant and animal diversity. The altitude in the region is between 750 and 1860 m. The vegetation is diverse – up to 1200 m. grow beech and oak, complemented by hornbeam, aspen, birch, maple, ash, elm, sallow, tilia cordata, black and white alder, willow, rowan, crab, wild pear, wild cherry and others. In the area above 1200 meters are found mainly pine, fir, spruce, pine, beech, hornbeam, aspen and others. The representatives of the animal kingdom in the region are: chamois, red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, wild boar and others. From Predators here dwell bear, wolf, fox, wild cat, otter, weasel, marten and badger. Among the birds are popular wood grouse, wood-pigeon, dove, quail and others. Diurnal raptors are represented by imperial eagle, small and large spotted eagle, buzzards, hawks and kestrels. From the night birds of prey inhabit owl, long-eared owl, owlet and others. Bear in mind that most of the plant and animal species are protected by the low, so you are not allowed to go hunting without proper documents and permissions. Picking up of protected flowers is forbidden too. The hunting companies and gamegrowing stations in the region organize group hunting trips for wild boar and the Devin’s game breeding station offers individual hunting as well as accommodation in its own base. Western Rhodopes tourist region has a rich history – the oldest artifacts are dated to 5 thousand years BC. The interweaving of many cultures and traditions over time creates the mystical charm of this region. Smiling, hospitable people, delicious food, wonderful views and crystal-clear air reinforce its uniqueness. Thus region attracts lovers of cultural tourism from all over the world. The region was inhabited as early as the Paleolithic (Old Stone Age) – near vilalges of Trigrad and Yagodina, and Orpheus Hut were found charred wheat, bone tools, needles, knives, amulets, idols and others. Inside the Yagodina Cave traces of life from the Neolithic era are found. Among the most interesting finds are various household utensils – cups, bowls, plates, etc. made on a manual potter’s wheel. The region was inhabited by Thracian tribes – from the late Bronze Age to late antiquity. The most common monuments of Thracian culture are mounds and sanctuaries occurred on bare mountain peaks. There are suggestions that the second most important sanctuary of Dionysius (after the sanctuary at Delphi) was located on Mount Videnitsa. In the area of ​​village Ravnogor (municipality of Bratsigovo) the largest domed tomb in Bulgaria was found, together with 19 smaller tombs. There various burial gifts were found, as well as a full set of ornaments for horse trappings of high artistic value (made of silver and covered with gold leaf) which is known as The Ravnogor Thracian Mounds’ Treasure.  Near the village of Isperihovo another group of mounds were found. Burial gifts, bronze vessels, pottery were uncovered here during excavations. One of the finds – a ceramic statuette of the Goddess of Love Venus, is especially valuable.  It is dated to the 1st C BC and is unique also because the name of its author, Anicius, is inscribed on the back. During the Middle Ages in the region were built several fortresses – Kaleto near Devin, Vastrahokastron near Bratsigovo. There are also ruins of medieval castles near the villages of Rosovo, Byaga and Kozarsko. During the Revival (bulgarian Renaissance) the local builders became renowned in the region and in the whole country for their mastery. There are over 90 architectural monuments in Bratsigovo, including the native houses of V. Petleshkov and Hristo Gyulemetov-Bonbona which are sites of national significance. The remaining monuments are sites of regional importance. The St. John the Baptist’s Church and the church tower as well as some other Revival-period buildings are architectural cultural monuments. The foundations of the Bratsigovo church were laid in 1832 and it was finished in 1833. The mineral water in the town of Bratcigovo is mostly used for drinking. Suitable for gastrointestinal, renal and urological and endocrine diseases. Mineral water from Bratsigovo is suitable for everyday use by children with metabolic disorders and obesity. The Devin Municipality is famous for its treasury of mineral water with temperatures between 16 ºС and 76 ºС. The healing Bedenski bani (Bedenski baths) are located nearby the village of Beden. The water is hot, the temperature is 74-76 ºС, with significant flow, low mineral concentration, it is hydrocarbonic, sulphatic and sodic, with moderate quantities of fluoride, with 6.9 pH and suitable for outdoor spa. Within the town of Devin itself there is a soft spring water fountain that makes for an excellent table water. There is also a mineral water fontain which is suitable for balneotherapy and medical treatment. When used for internal balneological treatment, it is important to keep strictly defined doses. When used properly, the water has a beneficial effect in the treatment of kidney and urological diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, hepatobiliary diseases, metabolic diseases – different types of diabetes, gout and hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic professional intoxication and for individuals exposed to harmful substances. The village of Mihalkovo, on the other hand, is known for its unique deposits of naturally aerated healing water suitable for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. For external balneotherapy the water is suitable for the treatment of: Diseases of the musculoskeletal system: arthritis-rheumatism, traumatic orthopedic, occupational diseases, neurological diseases of inflammatory, traumatic and toxic nature, gynecological diseases. For sports – prophylactic purposes in outdoor and indoor pools / after cooling /. Reproductive system diseases – endometritis, parametritis infertility etc .
